The National Football League owners have recently voted to make into an act a new initiative regarding the safety of the players. This new rule is basically making illegal for the players that are holding the ball to lower their head and to strike the defenders when they are pushing forward into the field. This new rule is bound to take effect in the 2013 season. In case this would happen on the field it will immediately result into a 15 yard penalty.

As soon as it went public it managed to get a lot of criticism and controversy due to the fact that it might take the fun out of the game and at the same time the a running back will find it almost impossible to protect himself.

This new rule is meant to make the American football game a safer and to eventually reduce the number of brain injuries that occur during the game. This way the players are encouraged to use their shoulders instead of using their heads during the contact between players.

During the time the player safety has improved a lot and it is a good thing, especially since the studies have showed that out of 35 NFL and CFL former players, 34 of them have showed some signs of brain disease and injuries before dying. This is happening due to the heavy impact of the head that happens during the football games. After suffering repeated injuries of the head the brain damage signs start to appear clearly.

The main purpose of the NFL is to be able to improve the safety of the players and to avoid the powerful impacts between the players that result into serious injuries.

The officials have mentioned that this new rule has the purpose to get rid of the most serious impacts that will be outlawed. For example the committee has studied a few games that took place during one weekend at the last season and they have noticed that there were only 5 violation of the rule.

Another interesting fact that should be noted is that the NFL is currently facing the litigation from many former professional players that are dealing with many medical problems after playing the game.

Overall in case this new rule is going to be adopted things are a little bit confusing and it will be most of the time up to the referees to be the ones that will consider a lower head attack a violation or not.

The purpose of the rule is good, since we definitely don’t want to see more professional NFL players hospitalized with head injuries, but at the same time you can’t take out the fun out of a game that was played like this for so many years.

You don’t want to see a game where everybody is very careful when passing by their opponents and where there is basically no head to head action.

It is playoff time in the NFL, the most exciting time of the year as teams battle for their ticket to the 47th Super Bowl in New Orleans. What better way to add to the playoff spirit than by placing a few wagers own on the games. This week features four games, on Saturday and Sunday and they are as follows;

Baltimore Ravens @ Denver Broncos; the home team Broncos are favored by 9.5 points with the total sitting at 45.5

I like the under in this match as Broncos have an outstanding defense that ranks 2nd in the NFL, While the Ravens stats only show them being ranked 17th, but with the return of Ray Lewis and his announcement of retirement this team looked like they had something to prove against the Colts. I expect them to put pressure on Manning, something he does not deal kindly to. My Pick is on the Under and Ravens +9.5

Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers; This will soon become a bitter rivalry with these two teams meeting up in such important games. I think this game will go the Packers way, all season the Packers have had injuries on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. This is now a fully healthy team that looks to make a push for the Super Bowl.  My Pick is on the Packers to win and the game total to be under 45.5

Seattle Seahawks @ Atlanta Falcons; This game is the hardest one for me to handicap, Seattle has looked so good to finish the season off, while the Falcons have been able to coast into the bye.  Statistically, the 4th best defense in Seattle will take on the 8th best offence in Atlanta, Atlanta has played horrid on defense with a 24th best rank, and they will be forced to stop the Seahawks aggressive rushing attack. My Pick is on the Seahawks to cover the +3 point spread as underdogs, and yet another game to go under 46.5

Huston Texans @ New England Patriots; The late game of Sunday maybe be one of the most exciting as both teams come into this match fairl even on paper. The Patriots come in the the #1 offence in the league but have failed to stop anyone of defense with a dismal ranking of 25th best in the league. The Texans however have balance on both sides of the ball with a top ranked defense and a ballanced rushing and passing attack ranked 7th in the league. If you forget the past few weeks the Texans looked like one of the best teams in the NFL, and on many nights this season the Patriots looked as if they had lost their shine. My pick is on the Texans to cover and the game to go over 49 points.

Lets start with the Dogs, stating with the early games;

NY Jets at Buffalo (Moneyline ) I am taking the Jets, Sanchez is back at the helm, and the Bills are just as unpredictable as the men in green; NY Jets  2.60

Baltimore at Cincinnati (Moneyline ) Baltimore has been a play for me the last two weeks, and I will make it 3 weeks with a play on them today, they have a chance to move up in the standings with a win today and alot of help, I look for them to play their hardest and head into the playoffs with a win streak.   Ravens 2.50

Chicago at Detroit (Moneyline ) Detroit has been my kryptonite this season, I have had them on my bet card for a majority of their loses, One thing I do know is that their losses have not been from a lack of offensive productivity. I believe they will find the endzone multiple times today and end the season with a win. Lions  2.40

Carolina at New Orleans (Moneyline ) Carolina may be the best team not making the playoffs, as they look to finish the season with a 4 game win streak. On the other hand the Saints will be looking to put a final chapter to this season that they will like to quickly forget. My money is with the Panthers –  2.80

I also put a small ticket together of some favorites; The Texans, Packers and Giants. All three teams needing a win to help their playoff positions.

We are quickly approaching the end of the regular season in the NFL, with just two weeks to make some money betting on all 16 games. This week my bets consist of moneyline plays both on favorites and underdogs. Earlier this season the majority of my winnings came from betting on underdogs, and they were paying out over 60% but in the last three weeks we have seen a correction to this statistic.

Week 16 moneyline bets;

My underdogs this week already started out with a loss as I was hoping Atlanta would pack it in and Detroit would put up a win at home, unfortunately that did not pan out as they lost 31-18. Today I like the following underdogs;

Buffalo at Miami (Bills Moneyline ) 2.80 After being smacked last week, I look for Buffalo to have a comeback game against the rival fish in Miami.

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (Bengals Moneyline ) 2.55 Pittsburgh ship is sinking, they have had turmoil all season long and now their captain Big Ben is getting into it with coaching staff. I feel the Bengals will have their game face on and will be looking to take home field advantage.

St Louis at Tampa Bay (Rams Moneyline ) 2.40 Every time I bet on the Rams to win they loose.. But both these teams are a coin flip just weeks ago the Bucs looked to be playoff contenders but since they have suffered major blows that look to have damaged their mind set. For the price I am taking the Rams with a gamble.

NY Giants at Baltimore ( Ravens Moneyline ) 2.20 Everyone knows the story of the Ravens, how they started hot going 9-2 and since have not won a game, well I feel they have a chance today against the Giants.  The Giants are not the team of last year, I think the Ravens are due, and what better team to win against the the NY Giants.

On the money line I like Chicago, Baltimore and the Bills at home. Chicago’s Brandon Marshal has been talking smack all week about the Packers and I think this Chicago team will come out to play. I also think that the Raven will once again turn to their RB Ray Rice and run all over the Broncos, the Ravens defense is not what is use to be, so I am hoping Payton doesn’t shred them through the air. The Seahawks have yet to prove them self away from home, and although this is not a “home” game for the Bills I believe they will have a majority of the crowd on their side. Lastly I am taking the 49ers on the moneyline, it pays out very nicely and they have the ability to win any game against any opponent, I feel they are work the gamble at the price of 3 times your money

Well it is week 12 in the NFL and it falls on Thanksgiving weekend, so what are you thankful for? I am thankful for this being a great season full of excitement and winning plays:) Now that the bye weeks are over and the 3 games on Thursday have passed we can look towards this Sundays games.

This Sunday I am back on the dogs, taking 5 money line dogs, two games which have already played out on Thursday. My plays are;

• Detroit -Loss
• Washington – Win
• Oakland
• Buffalo
• Jacksonville

That Detroit game could have been a Lions win, numerous times but it just did not work out, I think Oakland winning is a huge long shot and placed that bet mostly on a prayer. I feel Buffalo has a great chance of winning against the Colts weak defence and if Jacksonville plays like last week they will have no problem beating up the Titans.

On the Spread I took the 3 Teams, including the Redskins who were my play of the week! Today I will be watching the Atlanta game for the Falcons to cover and St Louis to bounce back form a pathetic performance last week.

We are now over halfway through the season, with a good scouting report on all the teams It is in the second half were handicapping pros make their salary! This week I like a few team on the spread, and a few underrated moneline guarantees.

First off lets start with my play on the spread, taking the Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bengals have been my hot team of the season, and paid out very nicely with a win over the Giants last week.  This week they will take on a much easier opponent against the Chiefs. We all know how potent the Bengals offence can be, but does anyone remember how good the Cincinnati defence looked last season? Well they have the same core of defensive players as 2011 and they are just now getting back into gear. I think the Bengals will be able to shut down the KC offence and putting up enough points to cover the 3.5 point spread should be no problem.

For my Strait up winner bets I like the Lions as a large dog to win at home against the Packers. The cheese heads have a lot of injuries on defence, and Matthew Stafford will look to sling the ball down field all day. I expect a high scoring game and hope for the Lions to come out on the winning side.

I also like the Rams, Pats, Ravens and Saints to all win this week, feeling brave enough to put all those games onto one ticket.

Last week we went 6-0, we were not the only bettors who had a good day, on average most people were inners last week, as 10 of 4 favourites covered and the Big public team all won and covered. Vegas got crushed last week calling it “Black Sunday”  Let hit them again and take some money from the books for the tenth week in a row!!

This week I have 2 games I like on the spread, Detroit over Minnesota to cover 3 points, and I like the Bengal’s to cover the spread which has climbed up to 5 points now.  Detroit has struggled all season, last week their offence seemed to look like it did a season ago. I believe the Lions will put up enough points to win the game by more than 3 points. In my  other bet I am taking the Bengals, not just for the reason that they are a very good and underrated team but the fact that the Giants have been struggling of late.  Not to mention this line has been moved by the public with more than 80% of money on the G-men with the spread and 90% on them to win strait up.

My underdog play this week include the NY Jets and Huston to beat the Bears, Sunday night.

Week 9 Picks on the Spread

I like Baltimore against the Browns to cover the 4.5 point spread, along with Detroit against the Jags. Baltimore has not shown a good performance in recent weeks, but playing the Browns should make them look good and I expect them to cover. Although Calvin Johnson is playing he will be on and off the field depending on how his groin injury plays out. I still see the lions winning this one with or without Calvin on the field for every snap.

I have also added the Bills and Tamps to a 6 point tease to move with line up to 16.5 and +7 respectively.

Money Line bets for week 9

This season my money has come from betting on the money line dogs, but this week I am on the favourites with a parlay.  I am taking Baltimore Detroit and Chicago to win strait up paying out over 3 units.
